Last interims meeting in Glasgow, Scotland

Our meeting in Anniesland College, Glasgow from Monday 5th to Tuesday 6th March gave all partners an opportunity to see the successful implementation of many forms of media in our teachers’ practice. Linda McFall once again gave a consummate demonstration of how to engage and motivate learners using technology, thereby ensuring their academic success. This was achieved through the medium of a very simple game that enabled collaborative classroom activities to take place. The game was developed in-house by our Learning Technologist, Joe Mills, in consultation with a Reference Group that consisted of learners and teachers.

A highlight of the meeting was the partners’ visit to our nursery where they saw very young children using SmartBoards in a confident manner. This highlights the very problem that we set out to solve through PUMEC: teachers, especially older and more experienced practitioners, will need to embrace new technology if they are to meet the expectations of new generations of learners in terms of utilising IT and ICT resources to facilitate their learning.

We had several productive sessions over the 2 days in which we discussed the progress of PUMEC so far, made decisions on activities and events for the final meeting in Potsdam and began discussions on a possible follow-on project.

As ever, the social events that were held on both evenings added a great deal to the project in terms of opportunities for networking, informal discussions and sharing of ideas/knowledge. Partners had the opportunity to see first-hand some of our Scottish culture and to immerse themselves within this at a range of venues.

We are looking forward eagerly to the events in Potsdam and Berlin in May where we will bring the current PUMEC to a close and discuss more fully the opportunities that exist to use what we have learned in the first project to good use in future collaborative work amongst and between PUMEC partners.
